A few weeks ago on November 8, 2013, I posted some thoughts on sharing your work online. Here is a link to that article. I said then that I would follow up on some of the services. Today, I would like to talk about the benefits of posting to Flickr. Flickr is one of the older and largest photo sharing/gallery sites in the world. Flickr is owned by Yahoo and they recently made some interesting changes. First of all its free. It now offers 1TB (terabyte) worth of storage. The photo communities there are very well established. It is a photo sharing site I use (not very often as of late). It is a site that our photo club (Hampton Roads Digital Photography Club) will hopefully be using more. So why should you post on Flickr?
You should know that I am a strong advocate of sharing your photos online. When I started as a photographer in the 70's there were not many outlets for you to share your work. Today, the internet has made it possible for hundreds of people to view your work. It still takes time and hard work but it can be done. The other benefit is you also get to view the work of hundreds of photos and photographers. If you want to improve part of the process has to be viewing the work of others and sharing your work. The more you do that the better your work will get.
Flickr has groups such as HRDPC Project 365. If your interest is Landscape there is a group for the subject. Check it out and I look forward to seeing you there. Here is a link to my Flickr page or you can click on the link at the top of the web page.
Deborah Sandidge is an author, photographer and lecturer. Some of you might remember her from the lecture that she and Dr. Jason Odell presented to the Hampton Roads Digital Photography Club back in April 2013. Check out her website at debsandidge.com. You can check out her book on Infrared Photography here.

This one is from a recent trip to Williamsburg.
Used out of focus and blur to emphasize the color.
During the Christmas and holiday season Macy's in New York and a lot of the stores go all out with window decorations. It is becoming a lost art.

As you know I love night photography. Capturing images at the "blue hour" or just after sunset is actually the best time to capture images.
Today I would like to introduce you to Billy Dodson. Billy Dodson is a African Wildlife and Landscape photographer located in Williamsburg, VA. Make sure you check out his images and website at : Savanna Images. Members of Hampton Roads Digital Photography Club will have the wonderful opportunity to see Billy's excellent presentation on December 10th. This is an event for "paid" Hampton Roads Digital Photography Club members only.
The holiday season is here. It's real and tomorrow is "Cyber Monday". If you have money you can find a deal. Make sure you check out Kelby OnAir. They will be broadcasting hourly deals all day.
Today was such a nice day Hope you enjoyed your day.

Best wishes to you and your family on this Thanksgiving Day.
Me and my good friend Jim "Brickee" Hansen had the wonderful opportunity this year to photograph "Faces in the Crowd" for the Daily Press. For the last several years we and some other talented photographers have photographed the people in the crowd that attend the high school football games. Its a fun assignment and I know I have enjoyed it very much. The games in September start with good light but by half-time the light is not so great. You have to depend on a combination of stadium lighting, high ISO and/or flash to get the job done. Shoot a game in November or December and its all low light/flash. It looks easy but it can be very tricky. You can check out our work here: Faces in the Crowd.
