Road Conditions
Be careful if you decide to or HAVE to travel tomorrow. Lots of ice and snow still on the road. Hopefully things will start to improve.

Today involved shoveling snow, cleaning off cars and doing paperwork. More paperwork this evening but I wish I had time to play some music. Maybe tomorrow after work. I hope all of you stayed off the roads today and stayed safe.
It snowed last Tuesday and today Tuesday January 28, 2014....more snow. It's winter. Have fun, stay warm and safe. One from the archives.
Today's photographer that I would like to introduce to you is Nick Brandt. Nick's photography can be found at nickbrandt.com
I found a lovely surprise yesterday at Gosnold's Hope Park in Hampton. It might be winter but kickball is alive and well in Hampton. Check out the website here
Enjoy your day.
You have heard rumors and I must say that they are true. The WIZARD does exist. Some days he forecasts the weather and some days he might forecast the future. But most of the time he is one of our great local photographers. His name is: Tom Shacochis
Light painting is a wonderful project that can be done during night photography. A camera, good steady tripod and different sizes of flashlights. Anyway here is a tutorial. Digital Photography School Tutorial Lightpainting.
This was taken last week when the weather was just slightly better. Better days are coming. It might take awhile but better days are coming.
I hope we don't see this tomorrow. But if we do, don't let the weather stop you. Drive slowly and make sure that you leave plenty of space between you and another vehicle if driving. Stay warm and safe.
Today I would like to introduce you to Stephen Wilkes. Stephen is a commercial and fine art photographer. His work has been seen in Sports Illustrated, Vanity Fair and Life Magazine just to name a few. Please visit his website and check out some of his work. stephenwilkes.com
I have been a photographer since just before high school. But I've also been a musician for just as long. I started playing guitar in high school. I added the bass guitar after high school. I have always found it interesting how many photographers that are also guitar players. If you're a guitar player and photographer leave a comment.

The question I get asked frequently is "Are you switching to the Sony Nex 6?" The answer is no, not full-time. Mirrorless cameras for certain types of photography are great. Especially if you have the lens choices to go with the camera. The great thing about most mirrorless cameras is you can buy adapters and use almost any lens with the cameras. So, my Sony Nex 6 with the proper adapter can use Nikon, Canon, Pentax, Leica and the list goes on. That in my opinion is one of the strengths that people don't talk enough about. The Sony Nex 6 is a APS-C cropped sensor. In fact its the same size sensor as the Nikon D7000. Image quality isn't the issue. So for me, I'll use the Sony Nex 6 for some cityscapes, street photography and my daily photographic interests. For things such as sports, bird photography or wildlife I be shooting with my Nikon's. At least for now. If you decide to buy one make sure you understand the strengths and the weaknesses.
Sunset at Hilton Pier in Newport News, VA. This is three exposures, processed with HDR Efex Pro 2, Lightroom 5 and Photoshop CC. Taken with the Sony NEX 6.
It's a four day weekend for me. Whatever you do try to enjoy it and have fun.
Make sure that while you are learning photography you also learn to have fun.
What a day

Today I would like to introduce to you Sue Bryce. The Australian Portrait Photographer of the Year in 2011 and 2012. Sue is great photographer and inspiration to many in the industry. A great teacher and photographer. Make sure to check out her work at "In Bed With Sue".
I've been using the Sony Nex 6 for a few months and I have enjoyed the experience. Let me say that in certain circumstances I have no doubts that these types of cameras are capable. In fact, they are more than capable in most situations. For most picture taking situations mirrorless cameras perform very well. For sports shooters or wildlife enthusiasts these may not be the cameras for you. So far, I taken sunrise and sunsets. My recent trip to the HRADA car show and the photos I posted the last two days were taken with the Sony Nex 6, wirelessly uploaded to my iPad and processed with Snapseed. I love my Nikons but the Sony has become the daily companion that I travel with. More to come soon.
